Results of Comparative Assessment of Adaptively Speckle - reduced

چکیده
555 Adaptive speckle reduction, which is designed to improve image contrast, dramatically alters the familiar appearance of the ultrasonographic B-mode scan. The acceptability to radiologists of this alternative method of display was assessed. Four experienced radiologists selected B-mode scans from 83 liver and 71 breast examinations and graded the change in diagnostically important features after adaptive speckle reduction. There was no loss of important anatomic detail in the smoothed images and a net reduction in image artifacts. Removal of speckle noise improved definition of lesion margins in 38.3% of cases and enhanced visibility of metastases in 35.4% of liver studies and 7.7% of breast lesions. In 42.1% of cases, the textural information in the image was judged to be enhanced. Image information in general was said to be belier seen in 49.5% of cases. The preliminary radiologic experience with specklereduced B-mode echograms is favorable and does not indicate generation of any substantial image artifacts.

Evaluation of strain and strain rate parameters using two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography in patients with coronary artery disease (Research Article)
The study aimed was to measure left ventricular (LV) strain using speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) for assessment of LV function. Eighty-two subjects (mean age 57±9 years) with suspected chest pain underwent two-dimensional (2D)-echocardiography before coronary angiography. Conventional echocardiographic parameters were used for the assessment of LV function. Longitudinal strain and its ...
متن کاملSpeckle Noise Reduction for the Enhancement of Retinal Layers in Optical Coherence Tomography Images
Introduction One of the most important pre-processing steps in optical coherence tomography (OCT) is reducing speckle noise, resulting from multiple scattering of tissues, which degrades the quality of OCT images. Materials and Methods The present study focused on speckle noise reduction and edge detection techniques. Statistical filters with different masks and noise variances were applied on ...
متن کاملTemperature Mapping Using Ultrasound Digital Images
Introduction: The success of hyperthermia depends on the accuracy of the temperature monitoring in the tumor and the surrounding normal tissue. In this study, the temperature changes were determined by computing the speckle displacement in the ultrasound digital images. Speckle tracking algorithm was used to compute the displacement. Materials and Methods: The experiment was perf...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Using Laplace Distribution
Speckle is a granular noise-like phenomenon which appears in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images due to coherent properties of SAR systems. The presence of speckle complicates both human and automatic analysis of SAR images. As a result, speckle reduction is an important preprocessing step for many SAR remote sensing applications. Speckle reduction can be made through multi-looking during the...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Exploiting Intra-scale and Inter-scale Dependencies
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by a multiplicative noise-like phenomenon called speckle, which is indeed the nature of all coherent systems. Speckle decreases the performance of almost all the information extraction methods such as classification, segmentation, and change detection, therefore speckle must be suppressed. Despeckling can be applied by the multilooki...
